Uncompromised Training

the world's best fighting system

Calvin Carter has his BlackBelt under The Valente Brothers based in Miami, Florida. The Valente Brothers teach a more traditional form of Jujitsu that integrates a self defense element called Fighting Foundations. This combination of Jujitsu and Self Defense, endorsed by Helio Gracie, is considered by many to be the world’s single best fighting system.

The ‘real-world’ effectiveness of this fighting method further elevates the value of our philosophical teachings encouraging benevolence, peace of mind and respect. It has been said that with great power comes great responsibility. Our students must maintain a higher standard of behavior as a part of their study.

To round out our teachings we also discuss the importance of nutrition and healthy living.

More on Calvin Carter, Katana Jujitsu Academy owner

Calvin Carter began his journey into the martial arts at the age of 14 years old. He started training in Shotokan Kempo Karate and throughout the years he spent time in other arts such as Thai boxing, Judo, traditional Ju-Jitsu, Ninjutsu and Jeet Kun do. In 1994, when the UFC arrived, he started training in Brazilian Jiu-Jitu (BJJ). The first decade of his training in BJJ was focused only on competing in sport Jiu Jitsu tournaments.

He started working as a Body Guard and later opened a private investigation company (Eagle Eye Investigations) focused on Fugitive recovery. Apprehending dangerous criminals for a living forced Calvin off the mat and on to the street using Jiu-Jitsu for self-defense. This test of his fighting system was a huge eye opener.

In 2002, he was promoted to a Purple belt under the Legendary Rickson Gracie. He also has experience training with legendary fighters and Jiu Jitsu instructors such as Rickson Gracie, Mark Kerr (UFC Champion), Ricco Rodriguez (UFC Champion) , Machado Brothers, Luis Heredia (Rickson Gracie Black Belts) and Rorigo Vagi (Rickson Gracie Black Belt).

After becoming a Fugitive Recovery Agent and using BJJ for real life situations (not just for sport) he realized that competition BJJ was not practical for self-defense and street combat situations. In 2005, he heard about the Valente Brothers (Gracie Miami) and traveled to Miami for private classes. The Valente Brothers taught traditional Helio Gracie Jiu- jitsu which focused on the five elements of Jiu Jitsu striking, throwing, grappling, self-defense and philosophy (weapons included). In 2010 Calvin received his black belt from Gracie Miami/Valente Brothers.
